Marvin's 1000 mile Cycle - Progress Update

Sunday 19 July 2009 Marvin made it to Lands End today at 3.45pm. He is in good spirits and was enjoying a glass of beer and a cornish pastie when he phoned. The weather today has been poor - about a force 6 with rain!! It dried up for a few photos at the end. He says he feels brawly good to have finished inside his target. 1015 miles on his clock. WELL DONE MARVIN Saturday 18 July 2009 Marvin now has only 60 miles left to go!!! He is staying in a B&B tonight, he is not entirely sure where it is as he is missing part of his map (about 30 miles of map). He has been up and down some very big hills today! Described as being very like Postman Pat territory! It has been raining again today but still managed about 130 miles.
Friday 17 July 2009 130 miles covered today and still raining!! Marvin crossed the river Severn - very impressive but rather wet!! He stopped at a roadside burger van to refuel. He then had a very large roundabout to negotiate. He stood and watched a couple of cyclists and copied them..... he got forced off into a wrong turnoff. Cycled around for a bit trying to get back on track..... then he passed the same burger van!!!! It worked better the second time. 815 miles on his clock and the end is now in sight. He decided to stay in a place called Churchill for the night (just South of Bristol).
Thursday 16 July 2009 Marvin arrived at Shropshire after getting another spoke mended. The weather was fine for the first 20 miles then the heavens opened managed about 75 miles then he had had enough. He was feeling a bit fed up, his ankles were very sore and he was feeling cold.
Monday 13 July 2009 After making good progress on Monday Marvin had tried to find overnight accommodation in Straven, but had no luck!! There was a gala on and all the bed & breakfasts were full. He decided to push on and cycle all night!!! He sheleterd at a couple of place as it was raining quite heavily. He arrived at Carlisle at 9am on Tuesday morning. He decided on a days rest for Tuesday. 240 miles covered in 24 hours. 500 Miles now showing on his cycle clock.
Sunday 12 July 2009 Marvin left Dingwall at 8.30am and arrived at Fort William at 7pm. It was raining all the way, and as you can imagine there were huge big puddles at the side of the road. He hit 40mph per hour going down hill (yippeeeeee) only to realise when he reached the bottom he had taken a wrong turning! Not so much yippee going back up (24 miles added on to his journey)!!! However he is in good spirits and was staying in a B & B to dry out and recharge his phone and MP3 players. 100 miles covered on Sunday
Saturday 11 July 2009Marvin left Orkney at about 11.30am, and got a send off from some ex-pats, Jenny and Freida Napier. He had made his way down to Dingwall by around about 9pm. It was all plain sailing apart from the spokes on his bike becoming a bit loose. He managed to tighten them without too much problem. He set up his tent on a campsite feeling tired but pleased he has managed 130 miles on his first day.
